Page-range mode is useful when a document already contains clear chapters or sections. Enter comma-separated pages and ranges using normal page numbers that start at 1. For example, 1-3,6-8,10 creates three outputs: one containing pages 1 through 3, a second containing pages 6 through 8, and a third containing page 10. The tool checks that every page exists and rejects malformed or reversed ranges rather than guessing what you meant.
Each range is treated as a separate output. This differs from selected-pages mode, where all chosen pages are combined into one file. The planned-output panel shows exactly how many PDFs will be created before you press Split PDF.
Visual page selection is helpful when page numbers alone are not enough. Switch to Extract Selected Pages and choose the thumbnails you want. Quick controls let you select all pages, clear the selection, choose odd or even pages, or invert the current selection. The selected pages are written into one new PDF in their original source order.
The thumbnail grid is designed for keyboard use as well as touch and mouse input. Page buttons can be focused and toggled with Enter or Space. For long documents, thumbnails are rendered near the viewport rather than all at full resolution at once, reducing unnecessary memory and CPU use.
Every-page mode creates one PDF for each source page. A 20-page document therefore produces 20 PDF files. Instead of triggering many separate browser downloads, the tool packages these PDFs into one ZIP archive. Output filenames use zero-padded page numbers so files remain sorted naturally, for example report-page-001.pdf, report-page-002.pdf, and so on.
Fixed-group splitting is useful for manuals, scanned records, large reports, or documents that need to be shared in predictable chunks. If a 10-page PDF is split every 3 pages, the outputs contain pages 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, and page 10. The final group can contain fewer pages when the source count is not evenly divisible by the chosen number.
This implementation reads the selected PDF inside the browser. The document itself is not sent to an upload endpoint. Local processing is useful for everyday documents where you prefer not to transmit the source file merely to separate pages. It also means the work depends on your device's available memory rather than remote server capacity.
No desktop application is required. Once the page and its processing libraries are loaded, page copying and ZIP creation happen on the device. This is convenient on Windows, macOS, Android, iPhone, and iPad when a current browser has enough memory for the document.
The output generator copies existing PDF pages rather than intentionally converting them into screenshots. Normal text, vector graphics, images, page dimensions, rotation, and portrait or landscape orientation are therefore generally retained. This approach avoids the quality loss that can occur when every page is rasterized merely to extract it.
PDF is a complex format, so specialized features can have library-specific limitations when a document is rewritten. Digital signatures, unusual interactive forms, portfolios, advanced encryption, embedded files, or uncommon structures should be checked after splitting before the result is treated as an archival master.
Online PDF services use different architectures, so privacy claims should be evaluated tool by tool. This Split PDF page is specifically designed without a PDF upload workflow. The source bytes are read by browser-side JavaScript, copied into new documents, and exposed as local Blob download URLs. Normal website assets can still be requested from the network, but the selected document is not submitted as form data or sent to a conversion API.
Students may extract a chapter from lecture notes or separate an assignment appendix. Researchers can save selected pages from a long report. Offices may divide invoice batches, scanned records, application packages, manuals, or internal reports. A contract package can be separated into sections when recipients should receive only the relevant pages. Fixed-size groups are also useful when another system has practical attachment-size or document-length limits.
The workflow is nearly identical across modern platforms: open the web page, choose a PDF from the device file picker, select a splitting mode, review the planned pages, then download the generated PDF or ZIP. On desktop, a larger screen makes reviewing many thumbnails easier. On phones and tablets, the grid adapts to fewer columns and controls remain touch-friendly. Extremely large or complex documents may be more comfortable on a computer with more available memory.
